The Muddled Blackberry
5 (1)

In the summer, I am always looking for a thirst-quenching cocktail to sip on the back deck or serve to guests for casual lunches or dinners.  This one fits the bill.  It is easy, refreshing and takes advantage of blackberries when they are at their best in the summer.  Be sure and choose shiny blackberries; dull blackberries indicate age.

In an old-fashioned glass, muddle 8-10 blackberries then add a few cubes of ice.  In a shaker, add ice, 2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice, and 1 ounce of simple syrup.  Shake for 15 to 20 seconds.  Strain into the glass and add 2 ounces of dry red wine.  Garnish with blackberries.

Enjoy!
